Edmund Optics Imaging Lab Module 2: Gauging and Measurement Accuracy Overview
Gregory Hollows, Director of Machine Vision Solutions, introduces the second module of Edmund Optics' Edmund Optics Imaging Lab. Learn how optical metrology provides reliability and repeatability in measurements, and become an expert on distortion and telecentricity in this easy-to-follow three-part series.
Hi, I am Greg Hollows and welcome to the Imaging Lab. This is Module 2 where we are going to discuss imaging optics being used for gauging and measurements. Many imaging systems can be used to do gauging and measurement accuracy for anything from spark plugs to needles to tires, whatever it may be. It is very important to use optical metrology correctly when doing gauging applications to ensure the reliability and repeatability of your measurements. Two major areas that we are going to be discussing are distortion and understanding how it actually works in the system and how you can use it for you and against you and understanding it completely so it can be factored out correctly. The other area is telecentricity, which allows us to do measurement accuracy over a given depth, changes in distance of position of objects and being able to measure that quite accurately and understanding the optical principles on how it works. This is Module 2.
